If the decay is confined to the initial two layers, it can be remedied through filling or restoration.
In case the tooth decay reaches the third layer and causes inflammation or infection of pulp, an RCT or Endodontic Treatment is needed.
Root Canal Treatment (RCT)
Root Canal Treatment (RCT), also referred to as Endodontic Treatment, becomes necessary when tooth decay reaches the pulp, the innermost layer of the tooth, leading to inflammation. This procedure is essential to preserve the affected tooth and prevent extraction. An Endodontist, commonly known as a Root Canal Specialist, performs the RCT procedure.
The process includes:
1. Extraction of irritated or diseased tooth substance
2. Sanitizing and disinfecting
3. Utilizing an inert substance for filling and sealing
4. Restoration and crown/cap
It is a multi-step procedure and may require multiple sittings.
